As you probably know, we’ve been working towards raising £10k for Isabel Hospice in our 10th anniversary year.
We’ve been going great guns over the past few months then, bingo! we added another £3.5k (well, £3,498.24 to be precise) in just one night.
And we wouldn’t have achieved this without the help of the glamorous Lady B and her balls at our Drag Bingo night!
The whole shebang took place at Tewin Village Hall which was turned into a bingo palace by Team Cariad who turned up armed with dabbers, bingo cards, prizes, auction prizes, raffle prizes, gallons of wine and beer, and a drag queen (as you do).
So what happens on a Cariad drag bingo night?
Basically, a lot of fun! After loosening inhibitions and wallets with good food and a crowded bar, Lady B made her dramatic entrance. We played three games each of which had been sponsored by our good friends at Robex Contracting, The Radiator Centre (the home of designer traditional and funky radiators) and Artisan People, the winner of each game won a prize too.
A short raffle, a quickfire auction, a few songs and lots of ‘80s music later, we waved goodbye to our guests as they tottered off in the direction of home, then totted up our totals… and all went to bed very happy that night!
We didn’t do this alone
We have to give special thanks to a few people who were amazingly generous with their time. Top of the list is Fiona Copley from Copleys Food & Events who provided bowl food with a choice of chicken curry or vegetable stir fry which were absolutely delicious – most people went up for seconds and we’ve heard nothing but praise for it ever since.
We’d also like to thank Franca and her family who gave up their Friday evening to come and help out, and they worked really hard making sure that everyone got their dinner in time.. Claire Whalley did an amazing job with the food and drinks and Robin Webb, the CEO of Isabel Hospice was a good sport and got into the spirit of the evening with a long blonde wig to rival Lady B’s. And last but by no means least, our thanks go to Larry Wood, a volunteer with the Hospice who ran the bar and has done so much to help us with our fundraising efforts this year, he’s virtually become an honorary member of Team Cariad!
At the time of posting, we’re teetering on the edge of passing the £8k mark on our JustGiving fundraising page – so please feel free to add a couple of quid and nudge us up to the 80% mark! But we’re not finished yet – we’ve got plenty more ideas to raise more funds by the end of our anniversary year, including another fun Quiz Night at Stevenage Cricket Club on Friday 8th November – hope to see you there!
